How I Write

All writers think that their process is nothing special and that includes me but there are a few essential steps and tools that I never leave out of my creative process. I don't think they are earth-shattering secrets just steps that I'm comfortable with and that gets me results every time.

  • Clean Desk
A place for everything and everything in its place. When you're organized you can spend more time concentrating on your story rather than feeling overwhelmed with the chaos around you.
  • Plan Your Writing Time
How many hours per week will you work on your novel? Do you work best in the morning or at night? Decide ahead of time what suits you best and commit to it. Never wait for inspiration.
  • Your Own Space - No Distractions
I'm lucky I can work almost anywhere and I'm relatively immune to chaos and distractions. But most of us need a little more order, and that means a regular writing space. It can be a corner or a room. Just create something simple and comfortable.

The Most Important Steps To Follow

Write A Lot

Get Your Ideas out into the World. Write every day and set your bar low at first. Then build the muscle into a world-class habit.

Read A Lot

“Reading exposes us to other styles, other voices, other forms, and other genres of writing. Importantly, it exposes us to writing that's better than our own and helps us to improve. Reading—the good and the bad—inspires you.”

Spread Your Ideas

“In a battle between two ideas, the best one doesn’t necessarily win. No, the idea that wins is the one with the most fearless heretic behind it.” — Seth Godin
